The spot on the mountain just outside the village hidden in the sand was Mizune's favorite spot. The wind whistled through the rocks in an odd silence so far from the busy village that is still within sight. It was like being deaf. She often wondered what it would be like to be deaf. The jounin shook her head to rid herself of the thought as she looked down the trail. Her amber orbs scanned for bodies. Not dead ones, but the bodies of her new team coming up the road.
This would be the first team she headed since, well she didn't want to think about it. Things are going to be fine, shinobi are getting stronger younger. That was what the Kazekage had told her when giving her the order to head team 1. Mizune hid her face behind her scarf and looked down at her book. Today's book was about the different uses of wire. She had read it five times already but there might be something she missed. Something that might save her life or someone else's.

Kata didn't exactly understand the instructions delivered to him. Go up some road to meet your team. He was never really good with maps and asking people where this place was did nothing for him. He couldn't get a straight answer. The boy finally gave up and just wandered about for several hours until stumbling upon a woman reading a book. He looked her up and down, she didn't look like much of a ninja and it was odd that she was reading a book that they gave out at the Academy. He snapped his fingers as it came to him. She was a genin member of his team. Most genin were kids but every now and then an adult wanted a new way of life and would go through the academy. The never made it past being a genin but there was good money in being a ninja.
Nezumi, a pure white rat slipped out of his pocket and crawled up onto his shoulder. The companion's whiskers twitched, tickling Kata's cheek. As if answering the rodent's question, Kata spoke. "That is going to be a new friend of ours. Pretty, ain't she?"

Dayn walked slowly along the mountain path, thinking about everything under the sun, and wondering what the future would hold. He had been very surprised when he realized Team 1 was a Genin team, and spoke at length to the Kazekage about allowing him to start at a higher rank. He was nearly of age! But he had lost that argument. He walked out with his headband bearing the Suna village mark and minor disappointment.
Dayn noticed two people further ahead on the path, and picked up his pace slightly. He had not been keeping track of time, lost in his thoughts, and hoped he was not late. If not for the brisk breeze, it would probably have been a very hot day. Dayn refused to wear anything aside from dark clothing, as he preferred the color and that it helped him blend into any darkness. A breeze was always welcomed, as even though he was used to the heat, it did get uncomfortable at times.
Dayn eyed the two as he came closer. Neither of them really fit his definition of what a ninja should be, though the last few days wondering around the village, Dayn had come to realize that his idea of a ninja was pretty far off. It was best not to make any assumptions, Dayn decided, as he walked up to the duo. He noticed the shorter one was.. talking to a rat that was sitting on his shoulder.
Dayn lifted an eyebrow, but made no comment. He looked back and forth between the two, noting the differences in them, and unconsciously tried to judge how he felt their physical skill might be like. It was an odd habit, or perhaps ritual, but it was always the first thing Dayn tried to discern when he met anyone.
After a moment or so, realizing he was not even sure they were the ones Dayn was meeting, he wanted to make sure. "Is this team 1?"
