Following the statements issued yesterday (December 3) by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador regarding the disappearance of the Office of the Presidency and the retirement of Alfonso Romo , coordinator of said Office, at Expok we question whether this fact would be related directly with the commitment to the 2030 Agenda and Mexico's compliance with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) .
The question arises because the coordination from the Government Office was contemplated within the National Strategy of the 2030 Agenda as follows:
Vertical coordination (states and municipalities).
Horizontal coordination (federal dependencies, Powers of the Union).
Participation mechanisms for Non-Governmental Actors .
The same ones they were looking for:
Define the main lines of action that will guide the Chile Mobile Number List development strategies of the present and future governments.
Identify emblematic public policies that contribute to the fulfillment of the SDGs, and concrete commitments on those that are needed.
Provide continuity to efforts, existing national policies and actions of non-governmental actors .
Given this event, our General Director, Edgar López , had the opportunity to interview Gemma Santana , the person responsible for directing the coordination of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the Headquarters of the Office of the Presidency of the Mexican Republic. Do not miss the details!
The Interview: Gemma Santana

Confirmation of the retirement of Alfonso Romo and elimination of the Office of the President
Santana confirms that Alfonso Romo indeed presented his resignation from the position of Head of the Presidency. Clarifying that the Office of the Presidency is made up of four areas and one of them is the head of the Presidency, which will undoubtedly disappear, due to the indications of López Obrador.
The 2030 Agenda continues
However, Gemma Santana also clarifies the importance of the 2030 Agenda and stated that it will not disappear , since it is a commitment that goes beyond any government, and on the contrary, she comments that hard work is being done on it:
We are moving many pieces so that we can take advantage of this "crisis" and make the 2030 Agenda even higher in level and commitment.
Gemma Santana, responsible for directing the coordination of the 2030 Agenda.
In addition to this, he says that they will take this as an opportunity for the 2030 Agenda to gain greater momentum and commitment derived from the National Council of November 10 where there were 10 secretariats. However, it is expected that this will continue in the presidency, although he adds that it is too early to know.
We understand that the 2030 Agenda adds to the government's priorities and many projects.

Taking this into account, Santana says that we are in a few weeks in which this can gain greater momentum, since yesterday's news had an impact, but that it is only a matter of time before the 2030 Agenda finishes consolidating.
Achievements and horizon
What is a reality is that in Mexico we already have the foundations for where we need to go as a country in terms of sustainability, by having:
National strategy.
Legislative strategy.
State development guides.
Municipal guides.
Private sector alliance for the 18 working groups with the Mexico Global Compact Business Coordinating Council.
University network.
Work with civil society.
Chancellery.
As of today, it can be stated that we already have all the guides and paths to advance towards the 2030 Agenda, those that are based on 4 principles:
Investment for the SDGs
In this principle, a boost to investment is being sought to provide solutions based on nature with a gender perspective , as well as a local model and above all in the needs that the country has as a result of the COVID-19 health emergency. 19.
2. Public policy coherence
According to Santana, initiatives have already been identified that until now do not require a budget as such, but that if modified would have a very important impact on children, women, the environment and decent work.
He comments that 11 initiatives will soon be presented that are the work of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.
On the other hand, they are working hand in hand with the Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu) for the mobility and security law that impacts various SDGs. And they also look for approved work from the municipality, State and federation, which is ideal for landing the SDGs.
3. Social and technological innovation
In the interview, the person responsible for directing the coordination of the 2030 Agenda talks about the urgency of digitalization to leave no one behind, since this will boost a local economy.
In addition to the fact that COVID-19 issues have brought delays in education and Internet access at the national level.
4. Education
In the field of education, Santana affirms that there are great advances, one of them is the SDG book that was aimed at sixth graders. Also that he has worked with the Secretary of Education and UNESCO, in order to integrate this entire vision from kindergarten to secondary school.
In addition to this, they have worked with culture indicators with UNESCO , the Ministry of Culture and the Presidency of the Republic, on the topic of memory and history led by Eduardo Villegas, and more entities that participate in this group for transversal culture indicators to the SDGs.
